Duxbury Futsal recognizes that concussions and head injuries are the most commonly reported injuries in children and adolescents who participate in sports and recreational activity. Therefore Duxbury Futsal adopts the following policy and guidelines to assist in the proper evaluation and management of head injuries.
Concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury. Concussion occurs when normal brain functioning is disrupted by a blow or jolt to the head. Recovery from concussion will vary. Avoiding re-injury and overexertion until fully recovered are the cornerstones of proper concussion management.
Any player demonstrating signs, symptoms, or behaviors consistent with a concussion while participating in a Duxbury Futsal activity shall be removed from the game and should be evaluated as soon as possible by an appropriate health care professional. Duxbury Futsal will notify the player’s parents or guardians and recommend appropriate monitoring to parents or guardians. The player should not return to play until released by an appropriate health care professional.
Duxbury Futsal Volunteers will take the CDC course on Traumatic Brain Injury for sports coaches every three years.
Duxbury Futsal will adhere to the rules and regulations of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and reserves the right to change the requirements of the Concussion Management & TBI Policy at any time to be in compliance.
